Singapore Citizenship

For many foreigners, the path to Singapore citizenship involves three key steps: obtaining a work permit, applying for Permanent Residency (PR), and finally, gaining citizenship. As a Singapore citizen, you will benefit from significant cost savings and greater convenience across various aspects of daily life.

General Criteria

• Age and Residency: Applicants must be aged 21 and above and have been a Singapore permanent resident (PR) for at least 2 years prior to application.

Spouse of a Singapore Citizen:

• Residency: Must be a PR for at least 2 years.

• Marriage Duration: Must have been married to the Singapore citizen for at least 2 years at the time of application.

Children of Singapore Citizens:

• Born Outside Singapore: At least one parent must be a Singapore citizen.

• Conditions:

1. For children born overseas, one parent must be a legally married male Singapore citizen at the time of the child's birth.

2. For children born on or after 15 May 2004, one parent must be a registered female Singapore citizen.

Additional Requirements:

• Male Applicants: Legally married at the time of the child's birth must complete an attachment stating their length of residence in Singapore.

• Female Applicants: For those born on or after 15 May 2004, must submit the application within one year of the child’s birth.
